Good morning/afternoon
My name is Grace.
Today I am going to tell you about loads of things that my elders taught me to do. And that I have always tried to do.
The first quality that I was taught was to respect people who are older than me. I was taught to speak only if someone talked to me and to show my respect towards them. Older people are always delighted when younger children talk to them or play a game with them. I was also taught to respect people who are younger than me because they are part of the future. They are always pleased when I say yes to playing with them and I love their cute little smiles. It just shows that respecting and playing with younger people just pays off.
My Grandfather taught me good sportsmanship and not to show off.
My Grandfather taught me about them by telling me a story about the opposite, and then telling me the lesson about doing the right thing that was in the story. Here is one of the stories he told: There was a boy once who was the fastest child in his school. He was sent to athletics to represent his school. He won his race but at the end of the day he was boasting so hard that no one would go near him. That small story was about boasting. Of course it always worked by teaching me. I still show off a couple of times a year with my running but doesn't everybody.
The third thing that I was taught was a type of physical activity. My mother taught me how to ride a horse. She was pretty keen on me learning to ride so keen she got me a pony at the age of five. Now she doesn’t have any time to teach me and now that I have started jumping she doesn't have enough experience. But lets just tell you why she started teaching me and when. Mum started teaching me how to ride when I was two. She started teaching me because I loved horses and we had a perfect beginners horse. Mum was also young when she learned to ride.
Now it's time to move onto the last quality that I was taught. And that is don’t give up! Sometimes I feel like giving up but every time I want to, I just remember that my great grandfather had to face tougher times than me in World War 2 and that he taught me to not give up for a reason. My great grandfather lives in Australia and is 100 years old. Knowing about believing in myself has given me a few more abilities and cut down my shyness quite a bit.
These qualities have changed my life a lot and I’m grateful to my elders for teaching me them.
Thank-you for listening to my speech. I hope you learnt something.
It has been really exciting talking to you.
